Sewer Line Replacement
This job has two different fittings that you won't see in any normal sewer line replacement. The first is a backwater valve, the valve in the picture is the fitting with a towel on top of it. This valve is used to prevent any water from coming back into the home. In this application it was used to prevent a storm water from entering the home. The city sewer and storm drain share the same pipe in this area of town due to the grade and space allocated for drainage to my understanding. So when the storm drain overflows it backs up in the homes in that area if no backwater valve is installed. The second fitting is a pvc 1/4 turn shut of valve. This is installed at the request of customer. A backwater valve should be efficient enough for stopping any water coming back into the sewer. Though I hate to lose work I do recommend customers to get estimates for trenchless sewer line replacements, especially if they have really nice landscaping. The only downside to having trenchless is you have the same grade as the old pipe. Grade being a continuous fall of 2%(3/4" per foot). Old systems get replaced, most of the time, due to breakage from tree roots. Tree roots can lift , push or pull a pipe in the ground. Hence leaving an ungraded pipe. So when you slide a new piece of pipe through the old, it keeps the same grade. For those of you who dont know why grade is important it's because any material flushed will not stay with the flow of water as it makes it way down the pipe. If theres to much grade the water will flow to fast for the material to flow with it, therefore leaving the material to sit and obstruct future flushes. So as u can imagine after a while there will be lots of material just building and building till you have to actually get in there and make the right grade.

New Year Water Heater Tip

It's that time of the year again to pull that water hose out and drain that heater. Draining a water heater from sediment build up can prolong the life of your water heater. Sediment makes the burner works twice as hard to heat the water. If you would like to see what sediment build up looks like, well it looks like pourage. As the water heats up, it hardens the water deposits in the fresh water coming into the tank. Once hardened the deposits fall to the bottom of tank. It sits there and builds and builds and builds till you get so much it just cant heat any longer. A sign of this build up is rumbling in the tank. It will only rumble as the water is being heated. So if you ever heard your water heater rumble its time to try and drain some sediment or just replace your tank. Though its possibly to late to actually remove all the sediment in your tank once you hear rumbling, it might help to drain.

Tankless Water Heater Energy Savings

If you want to save lots of money on energy when it comes to heating your your water, what better choice to make then going tankless with the Noritz Tankless hot water unit. Unlike the average hot water heater this unit does not periodically burn fossil fuel(natural gas). Hot water heaters have to keep a constant temperature inside the tank. In turn they provide two basic functions. One of those functions is it provides a hot water storage tank. Meaning as the water is heated it is stored inside the tank. The other function is to keep the water in the tank at a constant temperature, which means as stated above, periodic fuel burning throughout the day everyday seven days a week 24 hours a day. If you add up all those hours it would be roughly 8640 hours a year the heater is actively maintaining this temperature. On the Noritz heater the ONLY time water is being heated is when the hot water is actually being used. So if u add the hours you actually use hot water you can see how much energy you the consumer can actually save.

Plumbing Tips

Tired of SLOW drains? Slow drains are caused by the build-up of food, grease, body oils, hair, etc. Pretty much anything you put down the drain can eventually lead to a stoppage. Over time this foreign material that is introduced into your system becomes hard as the pipe itself and starts accumulating around the inside diameter
of the pipe. When this occurs it restricts the flow of water and debris going down the line. As the restriction gets greater, the pipe diameter on the inside becomes smaller. One way to counter this issue is to use a product we sell called Bio-Clean. Bio-Clean is a friendly bacteria that is grown in incubators, dried, and mixed with other enzymes and helpers. When you mix Bio-clean in warm water it becomes active and hungry in about 30 minutes. Each of the enzymes eats its own weight of waste in about 1 minute. The family number can double every 30 minutes. Bio-Clean multiples and eats through the waste matter until it is all eaten up. Bio-Clean changes the waste into water, carbon and other elements which run harmlessly out of your waste system. Though Bio-Clean is effective against waste matter it cannot digest INORGANIC MATERIALS such as glass, plastic, and plaster.
The other way to counter the issue is to spend hundreds of dollars on the replacement of your system. Though you can cable your drain, it does NOT remove the flow restriction. It only removes the debris that has plugged the restrictive pipe.
